Wellington YMCA, Telford

Overview: The former New College building in Wellington has been beautifully restored and repurposed to provide transitional housing for young people. Originally built between 1911 and 1912, the Grade II listed property on King Street has undergone a £3.9 million renovation, creating 28 modern one-bedroom apartments while preserving its historic character. Led by Morro Partnerships, the project began in March 2023 and has now been successfully completed. This transformation was made possible through grant funding from Telford & Wrekin Council, Marches LEP, the Safer Communities Fund, Homes England, and YMCA. This newly refurbished accommodation is designed to help young people transition from supported housing to independent living. It offers essential communal facilities, including a training room, laundry, staff management office, shared waste and recycling facilities, secure cycle storage, charging points, and communal gardens—all while preserving the building’s historic character. The development is part of a broader regeneration initiative that will also deliver 20 privately rented homes through Nuplace, alongside an affordable retirement living scheme by Wrekin Housing Group, featuring 64 apartments and 10 bungalows.
