We have set out to tackle sustainability from all angles, implementing initiatives across our sites, supply chain, offices, and customer interactions – with positive results maintained.
We believe in building responsibly, with a deep commitment to minimising our environmental impact for a better tomorrow. We know our industry has a journey ahead, but we’re confident in our ongoing progress with low carbon improvements.
Developing homes with environmental experts
Making a positive impact on the environment is about collaboration, and working with specialists has been integral to reaching our goals.
In 2022, we formed a strategic alliance with Bakers Environmental Solutions focused on significantly improving sustainability across our construction projects.
The core objective is to minimise environmental impact, with a strong emphasis on achieving “zero to landfill”. We have supported this through 90% on-site recycling, with the remaining 10% going to off-site recycling, reuse or energy from waste.
In our most recent figures, more than 23 tonnes of material have been donated to community initiatives since the start of 2024.
Environmental performance
Bakers provides comprehensive waste management solutions for Morro, including the supply of skips and containers, on-site material sorting, and facilitating the reuse and recycling of surplus materials. A crucial element is our full time, dedicated account manager, unique within the industry helping us to stand out from competitors, ensuring proactive and tailored support for Morro’s sites.
Our Bakers manager regularly visits our sites to carry out audits and has been working to educate teams to implement best practice for waste management, ensuring we achieve the very best results.
In addition, our “Greenkeepers” programme led by site managers has helped to enhance environmental performance, with the installation of community notice boards for increased transparency and stakeholder engagement.
Supporting the wider community
Our partnership with Bakers and our work on-site extends beyond waste management to incorporate social value initiatives, such as donating materials to community projects like prisons, schools, colleges, charities and non-for-profit organisations.
Surplus materials are often redirected to support rehabilitation programs through Bakers’ Inside Out Academy and to create community assets such as birdfeeders, planters and benches. Additionally, the partnership has halved the number of skips required per plot, reducing site movement and disruption within communities.
